| We
knew the day could come, but it seems to have come all too soon. Mitchell
has now started kindergarten! He is attending the half-day morning
session, and his first day was last Thursday. Starting last Friday,
he began to ride the school bus. Fortunately, one of his best friends,
Henry Jacobsen, gets on the bus at the same stop, so they get to ride
to school together. So far Mitchell seems to be enjoying school --
he's not giving up many details, except that he does like recess! |

| Allen
decided to enter the ISO Circle The City 10K on August 9, so we packed
up early on that Saturday and headed for Indianapolis. Allen had his
best time ever, finishing in 46:27 or 7:30 per mile. Mitchell ran
the kids' race, and was awarded a nice trophy! After the race, we
headed for the State Fairgrounds and spent the day wandering the State
Fair. We ate great food, saw the animals and rode the rides. The weather
was beautiful, and we had a terrific day! |

One of the first things we had to do was get on
the ferris wheel and have a good look around |

One of Mitchell's favorite activities at the State Fair
was this "obstacle course". He's pretty good at it
now! |

You
know that it is getting close to the NFL football season when Chad
Johnson, wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, starts opening
his mouth. First he came out and announced that he is looking into
legally changing his last name to "Ocho Cinco". That was
enough to get some of the media excited, but it's not really big
news. He topped that recently, however, when speaking with Tony
Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon on ESPN's Pardon The Interruption
when he actually said that he is one of a couple of guys who could
"beat Michael Phelps right now." Johnson (sorry, Ocho
Cinco) said that the problem with Michael Phelps is that there
is "no competition where he is." According to Chad, there |

are
many great athletes that never get a chance to compete at the same
level of someone like Michael Phelps because they are from the inner
city. Johnson boasted that he was the "three-time Charles Hadly
pool champ", and that he knows of a couple of guys who could
beat Phelps right now, adding "seriously, I tell you, and I'm
one of them."
When host Tony Kornheiser began to laugh, Johnson maintained that
he was serious, saying "Don't laugh -- don't laugh. This is
not funny." He really sounded serious, and if you know anything
about Chad Johnson, he probably was. If you want to be amazed at
some supreme stupidity, here is the YouTube cut of his appearance
on Pardon The Interruption: Chad
Johnson on PTI
That's it for
this week. Check back next week for more hard-hitting sports commentary! |
